I'm trying to get my class of beautiful children to write better reflections about their learning which prompted this reflection. I've been back 4 months now. I am SO happy to be back in Melbourne. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my new job teaching. I do miss the adventuring Estelle. The woman who would arise at dawn on the weekends departing with nothing but her cameras, an open heart and a vague sense of which train line she was looking for. I've gone on a few adventures here: a trip to the snow; a Tibetan retreat in Snowy River country; an ongoing search for the best $2 shop in Melbourne in the vague hope that there'll be a Daiso, a fantastic 100 yen chain in Japan. They're just not the same.
I start doing the music preparation for a new project with saxophonist and composer extraordinaire, Ms Sandy Evans in January. I'm setting up my loom tomorrow so I can learn how to weave and knitting projects are well underway finally. Would I return? Definitely. Ginza, Hakone and Fuji-San still appear when I close my eyes. As a man said to me yesterday, "Japan just gets under your skin".
I've just written a recount which is not a reflection... no wonder my kids aren't getting it yet!
